Cooling Down with Steve Strongman
I tried to get this post written before I went for my run, but that didn’t happen! So now I’ll try to finish it while I’m cooling down—if I can keep the sweat out of my eyes long enough and my fingers can actually hit the right keys.
(Writer pauses to wipe the sweat from his eyes…)
Rediscovering Blues in Colour
Last night, while I was reading about the Supercrawl festival in Hamilton, Ontario, I noticed that one of the featured performers was Canadian blues guitarist Steve Strongman.
That name sounded familiar. Then I remembered that I’d listened to him about a year earlier, and one of his albums was already on my iPod. So this afternoon I put on Blues in Colour and was quickly reminded why I’d enjoyed it so much.
For those who may not know Steve, he is a Canadian blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Kitchener, Ontario. At the time, he had released three albums: Honey, Blues in Colour, and A Natural Fact.
I realized something else while listening—I never did get around to hearing A Natural Fact. I think it’s time to correct that!
A Songwriter Worth Discovering
Steve’s website was also full of good news. His song “Leaving” had become a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, and he had also received the SOCAN-sponsored Maple Blues Award for Songwriter of the Year. Not bad for an artist who deserves to be heard by a much wider audience.
Now that I’ve cooled down, it’s time for a shower.
Let’s end the evening with Steve Strongman performing “Mean to Me” from his Live at the Barn DVD.
